Materials and finish
Specify the materials and finish you've priced, such as the stone type, slab sizing, laying pattern and jointing. Mention the area covered and any edging or planters so the customer can picture what's included.
Waste removal and skips
Say whether lifting existing paving, removing spoil and taking waste away are included. If a skip is needed, describe who arranges and pays for it, where it can go and any access assumptions behind the price.
Groundwork and drainage assumptions
Describe the excavation, sub-base and drainage work you've allowed for, based on what you can assess at the site. Flag assumptions about ground conditions and explain how unexpected problems or extra work would be agreed.
Weather and timing
Give an estimated start and duration, and say how weather or material availability may affect them. Explain how you'll agree revised dates with the customer rather than promising a finish date you can't be sure of.

- Excavation and sub-base: lift the turf, dig out and lay 100 mm of compacted MOT Type 1.
- Paving: 24 m² of riven Indian sandstone on a full mortar bed, 150 mm below the damp-proof course.
- Drainage: a 1:60 fall away from the house and a channel drain at the back door to the gully.
- Jointing and edging: brush-in jointing compound and a sawn sandstone edge to the lawn.
- Planters: two, each 1.8 m × 0.6 m × 0.45 m high, in treated sleepers, lined and filled with topsoil.
- Waste: all excavated soil and turf taken away. About six working days, weather permitting.
